Bluetooth Headphones Explained
If you enjoy listening to music or prefer the highest-quality sound technology available, you&ll probably be interested in Bluetooth headphones, which offer digital-quality sound, long playback time, and in some cases wireless control of Bluetooth enabled music players.
Bluetooth stereo headphones differ from most Bluetooth headsets because they cover both ears, thereby providing stereo sound and an enhanced listening experience. Unlike Bluetooth headsets, most Bluetooth headphones do not offer an attached microphone, although some do.
Bluetooth stereo headphones can be used with a wide variety of Bluetooth devices, including:
- Computers
- Home Stereos
- MP3 Players
- Cell Phones
Bluetooth wireless stereo headphones allow you to listen to high-quality stereo sound wirelessly, so you can move freely without having to worry about wires. Many Bluetooth headphones provide a digital-quality listening experience that is second to none.
Bluetooth Headphones Designs
There are three major headphone designs:
- Over the ear
- In the ear
- Traditional
Over the ear
Over the ear style Bluetooth wireless headphones utilize a slender loop that slips over the top of the ear and secures the wireless headphones. Rather than going over the top of the head, the arch of the headphones wraps behind the head. Over the ear Bluetooth headphones are generally the most securely fitting type of Bluetooth headphones.
In the ear
In ear Bluetooth headphones are often the smallest and lightest type of Bluetooth headphones. These headphones do not wrap around the head and instead fit directly into the ear canal. In the ear headphones offer a more isolated listening experience and are less conspicuous than other styles of headphones.
Traditional
Traditional headphones rest over top the ears and wrap around the top of the head. While not as secure as over the ear headphones and not as small as in the ear headphones, many feel that traditional headphones offer the most comfortable listening experience.
Additionally, many Bluetooth headphones offer special features such as MP3 player controls, a hands-free microphone, or A2DP.
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
A2DP allows you to wirelessly send CD quality stereo music from one device to another using Bluetooth technology. This advanced technology is offered by newer Bluetooth 2.0 headphones and can be used in conjunction with cell phones, computers, MP3 players, and all other Bluetooth enabled devices.

When choosing the right Bluetooth headphones for you, you may want to take the following into consideration.
Style

Features
Choose your features based on the purpose of your headphones. Will you be using them primarily to listen to music on an MP3 player? If so, you may want to consider Bluetooth headphones with built-in MP3 player controls.
